Beating The Weeds In Your Garden

VOTERS READ THIS BOOK FIRST: Obama's America - the Unmaking of America

Basically weeds grow either from seed, or they reproduce from their roots. As the roots grow outward from the parent plant, new plants sprout up from the lateral roots, creating more parent plants and the process continues and the weeds thrive. Weeds that tend to reproduce from the root are usually more difficult to control.

Weed control facts? Weeds are plants, and they function just like the desirable plants in your yard. They need water, sunlight, and nutrition to survive. Of these three key survival needs, the easiest one for a gardener to eliminate is sunlight. Through proper mulching you can eliminate the sunlight.

But first, let’s look at the steps you should go through before you mulch, then we’ll discuss the best mulching techniques to use. In order for your weed control efforts to be truly effective, you should do everything in your power to make your gardens as weed free as possible before you plant or mulch. There are a couple of ways you can go about this, either organically or with chemicals. I don’t like using chemicals, but I do use them for weed control, and I use them for pest control when necessary.

I’ll discuss organic control first. The first thing you should do is remove all unwanted vegetation from your planting area. Using a hoe, spade or other digging device, undercut the roots and remove the undesirable plants, roots and all. Then you should work the soil by rototilling or turning the soil by hand.

Once worked, let the soil sit for four days or so, and work it again. Keep doing this over and over as long as time permits. This process serves two purposes. It brings the roots that were left in the soil close to the surface so they can be dried by the sun, which will make them non-viable, and it disturbs the weed seeds that have started to germinate, which makes them non-viable as well. The longer you continue this process the more weeds you are eliminating from your garden.

Weed control facts? Depending on the time of the year, there are a few billion weed seeds drifting through the air at any given time, so to think that you can eventually rid a garden of weed seed is false thinking, but at least this process is effective for the remaining roots, which are the most difficult to control.

Skin Care – How to Get Rid of Brown Spots

VOTERS READ THIS BOOK FIRST: Obama's America - the Unmaking of America

Changes in skin coloration are a normal part of the aging process. But many people find brown spots, also known as “liver spots” or “age spots”, to be unattractive. These spots that often appear on the back of the hands are caused by sunlight exposure or chronic bruising of the skin.

If you have unwanted brown spots, dark spots or dark patches spreading on your face or other places, and you want them to vanish completely, giving your skin lasting clarity and beauty, then you’ll want to treat your brown spots with our Miracle Cure….

Prevention is the easy part—apply sunscreen to your hands, arms, face, and scalp (if not covered with hair) every day, whether you plan to go outside or not. You see, sun damage comes in two forms: UVA and UVB. Ultraviolet A rays are known as “aging rays”; UVA sunlight makes up 90-95% of all sunlight that reaches the earth’s surface.

It penetrates windows of houses and cars; it gets through clouds; it’s present 365 days a year. Even more troublesome is the fact that UVA exposure is “silent”. You don’t get a tan or sunburn from UVA exposure. UVB rays, also called “burning rays,” cause tanning and burning of the skin, so you know when it’s happening. Enough said? So from this day forward, you’ll apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30?

A laser generates an intense beam of light. This beam brings energy to a specific site, through a small hand piece connected to the laser. The laser light is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin (bright red blood cells carrying oxygen) and melanin/pigment (black or brown pigment found in the skin) causing decomposition or destruction by heat of unwanted cells while leaving healthy cells intact.

Microdermabrasion is another way to remove brown spots. By gently abrading the skin with ultra-fine crystal particulates, microdermabrasion can reduce unwanted pigmentary changes and age spots. It can also benefit our acne patients.

The face, neck, chest and hands are the most popular areas to treat. A progressive series of 5-8 treatments are gently performed 2-4 weeks apart. Peels are often combined with microdermabrasion producing even better results.

Laser is the best way to remove moles. It is good that you have visited a doctor since moles can be the symptoms of other problems. Since that is not the case, simply get them removed through laser.

Sunscreen, protective clothing, and sunglasses help prevent further sun damage. Exposure time in the sun should be limited and seek shade when outdoors. Try to avoid outdoor activities between 10 am and 3 pm, when the ultraviolet rays are strongest. See a dermatologist yearly for a skin examination to check for any abnormal moles or skin cancer.   Article source – Read more

How to Use Psychological Tactics to Avoid Strangers on a Bus

VOTERS READ THIS BOOK FIRST: Obama's America - the Unmaking of America

By Wired Science   August 1, 2012

A sociologist who rode coach buses for three years has codified the unspoken rules of avoiding total strangers.

“We live in a world of strangers, where life in public spaces feels increasingly anonymous,” said sociologist Esther Kim of Yale University in a press release. “However, avoiding other people actually requires quite a lot of effort and this is especially true in confined spaces like public transport.”

Buses provide a relatively inexpensive way of traveling long-distance, but the trips can take days. Sitting next to an unpleasant person can turn a long ride into an extended nightmare. Most riders try to keep the seat beside them open, maintaining a small but important space to stretch legs, curl up and generally be alone.

Of course, courtesy dictates that riders share their seats when asked, turning periods of passenger embarkation into silent struggles.

To document the psychological battleground, Kim embedded herself in it, logging thousands of miles on long-distance buses. In addition to documenting passenger behavior, she interviewed many of them to understand their strategies. Her findings were published July 16 in Symbolic Interaction.

“We engage in all sorts of behavior to avoid others, pretending to be busy, checking phones, rummaging through bags, looking past people or falling asleep,” she said in the release. “Sometimes we even don a ‘don’t bother me face’ or what’s known as the ‘hate stare.’”

Kim systematized the unspoken rules into a list of strategies commonly used to keep a free seat:

  • Avoid eye contact.
  • Lean against the window and stretch out your legs.
  • Sit on the aisle seat and listen to music to pretend not to hear people asking for the window seat.
  • Place a large bag or multiple items in the empty seat to make it time-consuming to move.
  • Look out the window with a blank stare to appear crazy.
  • Pretend to be asleep.
  • Put your coat on the seat to make it appear already taken.
  • If all else fails, lie: Say the seat has been taken by someone else.

The game changed, however, when drivers announced a bus would be full. Riders just wanted to avoid the “crazy” person and sit next to a “normal” person.

Kim found that race, class and gender weren’t key concerns when commuters realized someone had to sit next them. They were primarily concerned with maintaining their own safety.

“Ultimately this nonsocial behavior is due to the many frustrations of sharing a small public space together for a lengthy amount of time,” Kim said in the release. “Yet this deliberate disengagement is a calculated social action, which is part of a wider culture of social isolation in public spaces.”

Effective Memory Training Techniques

VOTERS READ THIS BOOK FIRST: Obama's America - the Unmaking of America

Improving your memory is a lot easier than it sounds. Most of us think that our memory is something unchanging and static. But it is not; you can boost your memory just like improving your math or language skills, by simply practising a few effective memory training techniques….

Stay Sharp with Brain Games

Playing brain games is an excellent technique to stimulate your brain and build your critical thinking ability. There are many puzzle games available you can do are crossword puzzles, Sudoku, logic problems, Quotefalls and riddles. You can also find puzzle books in the magazine section at most book stores. If you are not big on puzzles, then there’s a number of games that you can do as well; like chess, checkers or the Rubix cube. Video games also provide brain development and enhance hand-eye coordination.

Memorize Like Never Before

A great way to improve memory is to practise memorization. Every day, make an effort to memorize something; say for example a recipe, a poetry, or maybe a simple phrase. Write it down and then try to recall it a couple of times throughout the day. You can also go as far as to try to remember it the very next day. If you find it is difficult to do for the first few times, do not get disappointed. Just like everything else, it requires practice. Soon after few weeks, you may notice that you could recall and remember things more regularly and more effectively.

Write things down

There’s a miracle about writing things down when it comes to enhancing your memory. The act of writing engages several parts of your brain and activates more of the senses. As a result of writing, it is possible to clarify and organize what you’ll want to remember and also the written word gives a source from which you can refresh your memory later.

Engage all of your senses

Your fundamental senses are seeing, hearing and doing. While we realize that smells and tastes are great for initiating a recall, employing them to help you remember something often takes an increased level of organization. The more of the senses that you could engage, the firmer your memory interactions will be.

Pay Attention

A lot more people get caught up in multitasking and often fail to do it completely. Most of them fail to pay attention to the task at hand. This is very important, since your brain requires time to encode the information accurately. If it never makes it into your memory, you will not be able to recollect it later. If you want to memorize something, give up multitasking and start focusing on one particular task. This can definitely improve your memory retention.  Sourcehttp://tinyurl.com/8z6zuf6  About the Author   As we get older, our minds start to fade away and this usually translates to things like Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and also memory loss.

Hypnosis: An Effective Form of Phobia Therapy?

VOTERS READ THIS BOOK FIRST: Obama's America - the Unmaking of America

Hypnosis therapy is an approach that is taken to help treat the phobias that people experience. Since phobias, no matter how strange, are the result of a fearful event or incident in a person’s past, hypnotherapy can help to bring to light the memories that are attached to this issue and help to effectively treat the fear.

Understanding Phobia

Some people are fully aware of the event that caused their phobia, while others have buried them in their mind. When they are forced to face the situation in their past, most find that the fear that they have isn’t rational, even though it is holding them under its power and creating a stressful reaction when a person faces it.

Typically, the phobia will stem from an experience in a person’s youth. This memory may become repressed and could even be difficult to think back to. Even with it buried, the event continues to haunt a person. Although, some fears can occur later in life and be caused by some kind of traumatic event.

What is important to understand is that the fear that is present in the person’s mind, is legitimate to the person who experiences it. Since all fears ignite our survival instinct, the phobia causes a person to react based on their anxiety, rather than logic. For example, a person who is afraid of heights may not be able to stand along the rooftop of a building, even if there is a protective barrier in place that would prevent them from falling. For the person that isn’t afraid of heights, this seems irrational. In many cases the person with the phobia will agree there is no danger, but their phobia will still act up in this situation.

Hypnosis for Therapy

Unlike the concept that facing a fear works, the truth of the matter is that the core of the concern has to be dealt with. This is where phobia hypnosis comes in. This is a safe and well respected approach to coping with the traumatic event and dealing with the core of the problem. During this process, positive suggestions are placed and a reprogramming of the patterns and mental thoughts can help to improve the pattern and help to improve the phobia.

Through this visualization, the affected individual can experience the situation they are afraid of during a session and address the issues that are causing the fear. This can occur in as little as a 5 -15 minute window and over time; the fear can be approached in a manner that helps the person work past their phobia. Of course, a licensed therapist is essential for this process to ensure that the phobia is properly addressed and that there are no lingering effects in the process.

Hypnosis will work on the top 10 phobias and will address the underlying concern of them. From agoraphobia to claustrophobia and even ophidiophobia, a professional therapist will be able to address your darkest fears and help you to successfully move past them through hypnotherapy. Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/mental-health-articles/hypnosis-an-effective-form-of-phobia-therapy-6040032.html
